Some of the features include multiple mist settings, multiple hour timers, quiet sleep mode and tank capacities between 1.5L and 2.8L. Some other impressive features included in the more expensive model include smart connectivity via the app so you can set your humidifier from a different room.
Philips received five stars for ease of use, features & functionality, performance, quietness and design and a four star rating for overall satisfaction and value for money.
For over 130 years Philips has delivered technology in both the medical world and the appliance world. The brand has a number of appliances available including sound & vision, personal care, lighting, household products and more. Philips offers two models of humidifier ranging in price from $250 to $300, with features including multiple humidity settings to suit your home, NanoCloud evaporative technology that spreads 99% less bacteria and automatic sensing technology to adjust humidity levels.
Kmart’s brand Anko received a five star rating for ease of use, four stars for value for money, performance, quietness and overall satisfaction as well as three stars for features & functionality and design.
Kmart offers two different humidifiers: the Anko Humidifier and Ultrasonic Humidifier, and one large dehumidifier. The two humidifiers feature a three-mist setting, a 12-hour timer function, and can service rooms up to 15m². The Ultrasonic model goes a step further to provide an automatic off button, and a night light function and can be used with essential oils for aromatherapy. The Ultrasonic model also features a general 5.6L capacity and an ultra-modern design.
Dyson received five star ratings for value for money, ease of use, features & functionality, performance and design. It also received four stars for overall satisfaction and quietness.
The Dyson Humidifier has been discontinued but the brand does have two ‘purifying humidifier fans’ which act as a humidifier and an air purifier: the Dyson Purifier Humidify + Cool Formaldehyde and the Dyson Purifier Humidify + Cool Autoreact. These both claim to hygienically humidify, cool, and improve the air quality by removing up to 99.9% of bacteria in water before releasing it and by using a HEPA-approved filter to trap gas, allergens, bacteria, and smoke. Both appliances also have a deep self-cleaning function to reduce mineral build-up and are even able to report air pollution levels in real-time on an LCD screen. The Dyson Purifier Humidify + Cool Formaldehyde goes one step further and claims to be able to detect and destroy formaldehyde on household items, which is really handy, as formaldehyde can cause allergy-like symptoms such as irritated eyes, nose, and throat as well as wheezing, coughing fits and even chest pains.
Breville received four star ratings for ease of use and performance and three star ratings across all other categories including overall satisfaction, value for money, features & functionality, quietness and design.
There are three humidifiers available in the Breville range: the Smart Mist Top Connect, the Smart Mist Humidifier, and the Easy Mist Humidifier – all approved by the Sensitive Choice program, which means they get the tick of approval for allergy and asthma sufferers. All models can cater to both small and large rooms, and are designed to add moisture and purify the air. Across the range you can find features such as an ion generator to attract particles out of the air, up to seven different misting levels, a water purifying cartridge to prevent mould build-up, aromatherapy capabilities, and a cool and warm mist. In addition, the Smart Mist Top Connect and the Smart Mist Humidifier have voice and app control capabilities which can be accessed via Amazon Alexa or Google Home, so you can prep your humidifier before you even open the front door.
A humidifier is a device that helps to maintain moisture in a room or in the entire home. Three main types of humidifiers are available in Australia, including evaporative cool-mist humidifiers, ultrasonic cool-mist humidifiers, and warm mist humidifiers.
A dehumidifier does the opposite of a humidifier – it removes excess moisture in your home. Both can improve air quality, as well as assist with chest congestion and asthma. However, if your home is too humid, opt for a dehumidifier as it can help reduce mould and mildew build-up.
In Australia, most humidifiers cost between $80 and $300, increasing in price with the additional range it covers. While most humidifiers max out at the $300 mark, models from premium brands like Dyson cost upwards of $799.
Humidifiers have come a long way since they first hit the market, becoming quieter, as well as easier to use and maintain. Benefits of using a humidifier include:
